The purpose of this petition is for any elementary parent in the Leon County School system who would like alternatives for the 5th grade end of year trip other than Sea World to voice their opinion. I feel like I am in a place of having to compromise my morals of supporting a place I disagree with or having my child miss her end of the year trip. With all the controversy surrounding Sea World over the past several years and so many other great educational options available why are we still being forced to give our money to this place or have our child left out. With enough signatures maybe we will be provided with another option for an education experience for out children that doesn't involve controversy.

My 5th grade teacher at Killearn Lakes took us on the bus trip of a lifetime through North Carolina. Throughout the year, we learned to pitch tents, identify plants and wildlife, and she incorporated Native American history as well. I am eternally grateful for Ms. Jungling's alternative 5th grade trip. I wish the same option for future generations rather than the trip to sad, morally suspect Sea World. We can do better. The times are changing and so should this tradition.
