Changing just the practice of law in this limited fashion will not address the larger issues of consumer protection, access to justice and maintaining the independence of those who make these decisions on behalf of the consumers of North Carolina. This is a knee-jerk inappropriate reaction to personal attacks on those who serve. This legislation will just fuel other such attacks and undermine the purpose for which the State Bar was founded.
