It was reported in the 3/9/2023 Green Lake Reporter on page 20 in the Zoning Committee article that the Green Lake Land Use Planning & Zoning Committee (LUPZC) is considering an ordinance amendment "that would put an end to Board of Adjustments (BOA) appeals of Committee decisions” and that the zoning committee hopes to adopt this amendment before summer.
This comes after the Kopplin and Kinas Skunk Hollow Quarry debacle where the LUPZC approved the quarry request by completely ignoring a number of the requirements that were NOT met but that were needed for the approval. This approval was justifiably overturned by the BOA on appeal, (much to the chagrin of the LUPZC).
With this proposed amendment, the LUPZC is now trying to avoid accountability with the BOA and with the county residents that they serve. This is not right and I urge you to let the LUPZC know of your opposition to this proposed ordinance change.
They need to be accountable to the community they work for.

THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE AND PROVES THAT WE REFUSE TO LET THEM AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY!! PEOPLE ARE FINALLY WAKING UP TO WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE LUPZC AND IT FEELS FANTASTIC TO SEE US STANDING TOGETHER!!

This is a terrible over reach to eliminate public involvement in major decisions that will effect many people’s lives now and in the future!
Wrong. They want to make their own rules to avoid accountability to satisfy an agenga.
The LUPZC is clearly trying to pull a fast one here. If they were doing their jobs right in the first place they wouldnt need to shut down the appeals process.
Keep the BOA intact. We need checks and balances in this county or they will just do whatever they want.

If the LUPZC proposes to drop the BOA, they should have a review process that is open, thorough and soundly researched. The decision process needs ascertain the current and long-term impacts on the project site, surrounding properties and sensitive areas in the region before a decision is made. The current procedure, especially as it was instituted with the Skunk Hollow Mine, unfairly favors the applicant, who has all the time and available resources to develop their position before submitting a zoning variance request. Those opposing a request have very little time to review the request, evaluate its potential impacts and develop a comprehensive argument in opposition. Unless the LUPZC takes a more thorough and open process when processing controversal requests, the Board of Adjustments role should be maintained as an important means of protecting Green Lake County's resources and citizens from LUPTC decisions that may do much greater harm than good.
