There are
three families off FM 934 outside Itasca that have decided to build and operate
organic chicken egg laying facilities to house 20,000 chickens each, 60,000
chickens in total. It has been confirmed from one of the land owners that 3 facilities is just the beginning; more are coming. To our knowledge, NO notification has been made to
any immediate neighbors, county or state officials. We were inadvertently notified by relatives
living at one residence where a facility is being constructed. We are gathering signatures from surrounding
property owners who could potentially be impacted by these facilities who wish
to express their concern about the current situation. At a minimum, we expect there to be
substantial odor nuisance, and potential water pollution and contamination. It
is our intent to show proof that our community does not condone or desire any
such facility in the immediate area, as it will reduce our standard of living,
quality of life, as well as our property values.
Austin, all available regulatory bodies, the
county judge and several local news outlets have been contacted. Legal advice has also been sought. The county judge recommended letters be sent
to the families where the facilities are being built to respectfully explain
how this could negatively impact our area.
At this time, the more who know the better. Call the local and state regulatory offices,
congressmen, and news outlets. Phone
numbers to pertinent offices as well as addresses for letters can be
supplied. Thank you for your concern and
I hope we are able to prevail.
The smell is going to be unbearable for everyone living out there. We moved to the country for fresh air not to live right next to a giant factory farm. This is wrong.
