A federal trademark application has been made on the word “Yule” as it pertains to products that fall into the federal category of perfume. The determination of what falls into that category is subjective. It could be looked at broadly and include any scented product with the word Yule in the product name or it could be limited to bath and body fragrance items. There is no way to tell until the owner of the trademark enforces it through the courts.

Yule is commonly used in product names with holiday scents. If this application is approved sellers of Yule scented products will be forced to change the name of their product. We are asking business owners and sellers to sign this petition and help us oppose this trademark application.

We, the undersigned sellers, oppose the issuance of a trademark for the word YULE with respect to perfume. It is a commonly used generic or descriptive term indicating traditional holiday scents, and to prohibit its use in perfumes and other scented products would be removing a widely used descriptive word from common use. It would be unfair to the many current users of the term, such as the undersigned, who commonly produce and sell “Yule” scented products, if YULE were to become a trademarked name and be unavailable for its current, broadly generic use.

I have been reviewing the feedback from various sellers who are concerned about the implications of this trademark application. It is clear that many small businesses rely on this descriptive term to identify seasonal offerings. I am currently consulting with those who have expertise in trademark law to determine the most effective path forward for our collective opposition.

The petition has now crossed the threshold of one hundred signatures. This level of engagement confirms that many independent sellers recognize the threat that a trademark on this common term poses to our collective livelihoods.

This is a waste of someone's valuable time. It should have never been allowed to even be submitted. Any word or label that is commonly recognized in a general broad scope, should not be trademarked. It would be like trying to trademark the phrase, 'red, white, and blue'.

Yule is a seasonal religious sabbat and holy day (of Scandinavian origin) celebrated by many people; it is not something one can claim for themselves. This would be like placing a federal trademark on all uses of the word "Christmas." It's asinine and must not be approved.

Yule is my holiday I am a pagan. I respectfully ask that this trademark not go through on the basis that as a small business person I may on occation sell holiday related scents and incenses specifically for this holiday and rituals and are labled as such

Trademarking a single word is not only a sign of greed but a lack of respect for culture, religion and world wide celebrated holidays. This should not be allowed. It also adversely affects many product lines of small businesses including my own.

I oppose because Yule is the name of ritual sabat, it's religious name . If it's become à label you insult my religion, my practice, who have centuries years. Do you accept I use name event diary un yours religion , probably no. Don't make that with the mine.

As a crafter of pagan holiday items I oppose the tradmearking of a very big holiday for many many spiritualists and makers of goods for this very old and very far-reaching tradition. Trademarking "Yule' is like having someone own the rights to 'Christmas'
