How can a company own a sacred, religious word?

Yule is a word filled with traditions that many cultures new and old have used and celebrated as far back as the Scandinavian Viking Age, then called jól, from whence Yule was derived. Yule was also celebrated in every home in England since the 1800s. To date, Yule has always been public domain. To market and brand this as the sole property of any one person or company would be an outrage to thousands worldwide both spiritually as well as relating to business. It doesn't just negatively impact the hundreds who sign this petition, but thousands worldwide who don't even know this petition exists. It is blatant belligerence to patent a holiday to make a buck and be legally permitted to sue anybody else who uses the holiday as well.

This is utterly ridiculous and nothing spiritual about it. Just greed and narcissism....The word is an actual holiday but if she wins this that means every big and little Parfum company would have to pay her royalty company like Tiffany &Co to glade...And she could word search for anyone so to hit them with lawsuits to pay her for making a DIY scent using YULE as common scent name..So that means disabled people fixed income that make soap and call the scent Yule....Meanwhile this is going on and Big Fat Cat companies who never trademark the word as own scent have not been contacted so they with all their money and corporate force can stop this person.....From a site that started small and have grown to a nice sized following this just seems scandalous and out right short cut for money and power...Meanwhile the items she sales are causing people to get sick and some extremely harmed for life....This is not a word up for grabs it is a Holiday otherwise don't you think the big named companies would have tried this I'm sure it's been an understanding and mutual respect to not even think to try to own a word (holiday) does she want Christmas Halloween easter and even Autumn which all have scents named after them to describe it's smell.....They all have a common knowledge that word means certain scents pertaining to that holiday season.... I also don't feel comfortable allowing my name be posted I had been a follower and wanted to try some of her scents until I heard from hundreds of people that they had been made sick or bad reactions.....will she want to Trademark everything she carries and is she using names already trademarked but company not aware and need to collect money from her?? Same does she have an attorney fighting the medical damages to these poor people......Honestly I hope this gets farther and wider and a company goes after her maybe shut her down...Basically isn't that the power and greed she so seeking with this????

Yule is a holiday. Many of us make products for "Yule". This would be like trademarking Christmas or Hannukah. Utterly ridiculous.

This is really wrong..Yule is used in many forms of religions and practices..from food Yule log cake to songs ..this would be the same as trying to trade mark the word water or air...

I do not agree with the trademarks of Pagan religions. Yule, Samhain these are sacred celebrations. No trademarks should be considered.

This is absurd. How would proper react to someone trying to trademark "Christmas"?! The level of base materialism at work here exposes this Athena woman as a fraud in the spiritual community.

This word is used to symbolize a holiday as well as many other thugs. You can not and should not trademark a holiday that means so much to so many.

I regularly market a Yule Mix Incense package and have been doing so for decades. Since Yule is the name of a holiday, I have regularly sold Yule Incense, Yule candles, Yule greeting cards, Yule bumperstickers, etc. I have been in business and doing so for over 25 years. Trademarking the word Yule is like trademarking the word Easter.

Next people will want to trademark Samhain, Full Moon, Christmas and Easter...
