The city council has officially withdrawn the proposed property tax increase. It is a relief to see them choose fiscal responsibility over placing an additional burden on our local families. We will remain attentive to future budget discussions to ensure these priorities stay aligned.

While we find that public safety should be a priority in Tallahassee, providing this basic protection should be done by providing cost savings in our current budget rather than a tax increase on the hard working families in the City of Tallahassee

We need zero-based budgeting...we will find lots of expenses that are questionable and thus can be reduced or zeroed out so that we can put police officers on the beat to insure public safety - that's government, at any level, first responsibility!
State workers, the city's single largest constituency, has received one pay increase in the past eight years! We are we supposed to find the money to pay for this massive property tax increase!
Our taxes are already higher than they need to be. Fund what is necessary first (e.g. police, fire, roads), then if there is anything left over, decide how to spend that. For example: Gaines Street is an extra, not a necessary, expenditure.
Seniors cannot afford more taxation. We pay enough with every utility, telephone, tags, licenses, gasoline, and property. We understand the need to occasionally increase taxes, but we do not see any attempts at reducing the budget. Let us first see a 27% reduction in the budget!
My wife and I love Tallahassee and would like to retire here. BUT with the tax rate and the liberal commission for both the city and the county it is a "no brainer" to relocate and retire elsewhere. We are already looking! Spend your city into oblivion Tallahassee City Commission!
Please do not increase taxes or fees in any way--in fact, please look at ways to cut expenses & decrease taxes.
I firmly believe that we do not need additional taxes in order to properly fund law enforcement.

We spent $50 million on smart meters that aren't complete, $60 million on a holding pond, $6 million on a local "city" bar, and $6 million plus on a walk way over south monroe! Hmmm, I wonder why the city has no money for police officers?
