As the voice of business for more than 1000 businesses in Bloomington and Monroe County, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce opposes the City’s proposed conditional use ordinance, which would restrict “standardized” restaurants ("a restaurant or bar devoted to the preparation and offering the sale of food or beverages to the public for the consumption either on or off the premises, which is required by contractual or other arrangements to offer standardized menus, ingredients, food preparation, employee uniforms, company logos, or exterior design.") from locating in some portions of the downtown. Please sign this petition to oppose the City's proposal. For additional information, visit our website:http://www.chamberbloomington.org/advocacy/local_issues.aspx

The arguments coming from the city hall side remain frustratingly disconnected from the struggles of our local business owners. I am spending my afternoons reviewing the draft ordinance and detailing exactly why these restrictions will harm our growth. It is a long haul to convince them but I am not walking away from this fight.

Reaching this level of support confirms that our local business community is feeling the strain of these proposed restrictions. The work remains grueling and the path forward is uncertain but seeing this many people push back gives me the resolve to keep fighting.

If it were not for franchises, this country would not have anything. No need to regulate and govern so much for downtown Bloomington!

If we are so open to I ^( being a "highway to wealth and oppertunity" then why the hell would we support anything that would generate more revenue for Btown??? Ridiculous idea!!

Diversity is a national issue now, let it include businesses in Bloomington! What happened to our free-enterprise system!

I thought we lived in a free country. It's really beginning to feel like a communist state.
