Community members are horrified that Omaha would permit an out of state developer with questionable practices and disturbing reviews to infiltrate our neighborhood with open arms.

Elmington LLC plans to build a 210-unit apartment complex at 56th and Kansas Ave, a neighborhood that mainly consist of 3-4 bedroom single family homes. This project would create congestion in an area that's already saturated. There is an apartment building just across from the intended site as well as a recent build of another apartment complex less than a half mile away. This project would generate more traffic on a roadway that has been deemed hazardous by the Public Works Department.

The community finds it despicable how the City pushes through projects with very little regard in how it will effect residents and neighborhoods. By the time residents are informed the project is already well underway. The notification process must allow more consideration for residence who's lives will be severely impacted. This should also include the wildlife where this planned building site is a refuge.

The Omaha City Council has the authority and responsibility to stop this mistake before it goes any further.

Updates

November 11, 2024

I have been spending my evenings reading through the stories you all have shared about our neighborhood and it is clear that we are not the only ones worried about the safety of our streets. We are currently preparing a formal letter to the Council to demand they acknowledge the reality of the traffic hazards on Kansas Avenue. Keep watching this space for updates on our next steps to protect our homes.

November 11, 2024

Seeing so many neighbors come together against this development confirms that I am not the only one losing sleep over the future of our streets. This momentum shows the city that we refuse to let them ignore our concerns any longer.

Not a good fit for the area and Kansas St is not designed to handle the increased traffic; single lane traffic in each direction.

There are multiple apartments in this area already. We have taken away so much land from the wildlife. The road that runs parallel to the field is not a safe road. There are no curbs or sidewalks. Why does the city feel the need to fill up every field with substandard housing?

This is unacceptable. The roads, schools and infrastructure are not capable. The company has a bad track record and the city is slow to enforce reasonable rules.

Citizens need to speak up, Our Mayor, nor city council care who they let in to do shoddy work.

Omaha needs more single-family homes. No more apartments!

Please, Omaha, no more apartment complexes. We already have more than we need.

It is up to neighborhoods to protect themselves

Please consider our signatures as a collective resistance to the proposed plan to develop an unwarranted complex in our neighborhood. We will stand together to oppose the development as it would leave a permanent stain and negatively impact the landscape and future of the families, businesses, and wildlife that call this neighborhood home.
