The major supermarket chains have finally agreed to sign the Fair Food Agreement. This fight took so much out of us over the long years but we prevailed. Keep watching to ensure these commitments hold firm.

After a fifteen year struggle, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Campaign for Fair Food has begun to end slavery, grinding poverty, and brutal exploitation of Florida migrant farmworkers. Through their groundbreaking Fair Food Agreement, signed by nine major tomato buyers and growers, the CIW has raised wages for the first time in thirty years and put in place a Code of Conduct protecting workers from abuse. Except for Whole Foods, supermarkets have resisted joining the CIW and their thousands of supporters in this effort. For more information, go to CIW-online.org and learn about this exciting campaign. Sign this petition today asking Publix, Trader Joe's, Kroger, and Aholdmto sign the Fair Food Agreement.

The lack of response from these corporations is draining but I am still reading every single account of the conditions in those fields. This has become a much heavier burden than I expected when I first posted this yet I cannot walk away from the reality of what is happening to these workers.

It's a shame that a chain such as Publix would not have any decency in lending their support to something as noble as the Fair Food Agreement. I will have to think twice about buying at Publix now. Claudia Salcedo

I watched the movie, Food Chains, and my sympathy for your cause is heartfelt. I went to the Publix website and submitted my concerns to them directly in an email. I did use to buy at Publix in the past, and was unaware of the system that exploits one community to present a positive image to another one.

You are multibillion dollar companies. As a consumer of your products, I ask to take some of that money made and put it back into the pockets of the farm workers. Without them you would not have produce to sell. These people have families to support and work harder than you and I probably ever have. Thank you!

Until publix signs the fair food agreement i will not be shopping there. I hope to persuade my friends and family to stop shopping there as well.

Surprised to see Walmart joined the coalition. I happily spend my money at trader joe's for their affiliations to fair food. I would gladly spend it elsewhere if other markets were as well.

After watching the documentary food chain, I feel ashamed as a human being for being an ignorant about what was going on with these workers. I have decided to do something to stop with this situation and support only supermarkets and stores that are part of the agreement.

I picked strawberries for 1 day in Washington state in 68, I was 21 years old. I never went back the next day, I was in so much pain from bending over all day. I did the job because I thought it would be a fun & easy way to earn some money. I don't know how people can do such hard work every day. I am not a lazy person, I have to keep moving & am still working at 70.
