The intersection of Virginia St. and Oyler Ave. on Monday through Friday from 3:20 to 3:50PM is a safety hazard for the students and employees of New River Elementary, Fayette Institute of Technology, and Oak Hill High School. Various measures have been taken in the past by the City of Oak Hill and the Principals of New River Elementary to aid in traffic control to no avail. There is very little area for vehicles to move out of the path of an Emergency Vehicle should it be needed. This delay of critical minutes could mean the life of a human being. Studies have shown a correlation with response time and survival rates in cardiac arrest. The installation of additional lanes and a traffic light will provide an essential pathway for Emergency Vehicles to gain access to the majority of the school-aged children in our city during this time period, not to mention free up congestion on the Southbound Exit ramp of US-19.
