In December 2020, NYU revised an attendance policy that puts employees at risk of unfair termination. Under the new policy if an employee leaves work early for an unscheduled reason, the partial day absence counts towards the occurrence guidelines.

We, the undersigned, stand united for a fair attendance policy that allows us to care for ourselves and our families in times of need without having to risk our jobs. As NYU staff/ 1199 union members, we are committed to provide high-quality, compassionate, skilled patient care in a safe and healing environment, we demand a meeting to discuss this policy, and a voice in future policy decisions.

I had to leave when my daughter was in accident. I also had to leave when my niece was dying. I am human and compassion integrity I thought NYU was about that. I know the CEO MR Grossman dont think that way.

A staff should be allowed to use his or her sick days with a medical note. Having a MRI, getting blood drawn, being poked at by one’s GYN or having dental work isn’t pleasant so why should a staff have to use vacation time for medical spots?? a vacation so why should

This is unfair. After all that we sacrificed & did during covid, this is how we are treated? Not only did we NOT get an appreciation bonus, we now have our jobs placed in jeopardy if we get sick mid-shift. This is ridiculous!! Most other places have shown their employees appreciation. Instead you threaten our jobs. Shame on you!!!

Just crazy....if you have a doctor's note and you're out with bronchitis, guess what? Under current guidelines, an occurence. It was probably an occurrence if you called up and said I have COVID!!!

We need a better sick policy in effect so that we can take care of ourselves and our families. Coming to work sick in fear of losing your job is not healthy for us, our co-workers or our patients.

This new policy is unreasonable during a pandemic where families are having a difficult time financially, mentally, physically and emotionally. This shows shows no compassion for the employees who are at risk coming to work everyday and coming home to families putting them at risk as well.
