We, the nurses and nursing assistants of Banner Health, petition those responsible for implementing the assigned weekend schedules effective January of 2020.
To date, we have enjoyed the autonomy of being able to self schedule. The demands of our job already leave much out of our control, so being able to have control of our schedule was empowering.
We are now forced to work days we may not be able to, or days that may conflict with our schedules outside of work. More importantly than that, this sweeping decision was made without taking into consideration the voice of your most valued employees, those working the frontlines of healthcare for Banner, who are directly impacted by this change.
We demand that our voice be heard, that our self scheduling remain autonomous, and that we are taken into consideration for any future sweeping changes directly affecting us, your frontline employees.
As a nursing student and future RN this news that nurses aren’t not being treated fairly with giving them a choice of when they can work is concerning and disheartening. Banner was always the top of my list to apply for a RN position but knowing that nurses are not having the right to choose their own schedule has me second guessing choosing Banner as a place of employment. Nurses should be in the top priority at all hospitals they work so hard and love their jobs.
