The students have found Semester 2 (the current 2022 Semester) to be particularly taxing in terms of their workloads and clinicals as well as the hours arising from increased coursework. It is therefore imperative for the collective mental and physical health of the student body to be given a break from classes, tests, studying and clinicals as planned on the UB Almanac. This is in fact the primary reason for breaking an academic year into semesters with scheduled and published breaks between.

We are unofficially informed that we would not be allowed to go for the mid semester break due to ongoing clinicals and do not feel this a fair mandate by The Faculty Administration and appeal to our Heads and Supervisors to please consider that the students are exhausted and over worked at present and in dire need of this break. Many of us also use this break to travel home to visit with our children, parents, siblings and extended family.

It is justifiably felt that should the students have been expected to work through the mid semester break then we should have been engaged at a reasonable period beforehand to discuss this matter and to allow for everyone involved to plan accordingly.

Updates

March 11, 2022

The Faculty Administration remains silent while we burn out from this relentless schedule. They think they can ignore our exhaustion but they are mistaken. We are preparing to take our grievances directly to the department heads because this disrespect for our mental health ends now.

It totally inconsiderate and unreasonable to do this. Further there isn’t even an official notification through proper channels

We are emotionally drained, the last week has been the most exhausting we had lab reports to be submitted, Bns labs, lectures, 4 tests and clinicals. If we don't go for this semester break we are not going to have another break until May

Um against this issue of going for clinicals on semester break, since we are exhausted, we need to rest and catch up with the content that has already be done,, and more importantly we have too much work that need to be submitted immediately after the break and we wouldn't find enough time to complete the work if we still have to be going for clinicals...

The clinicals are themselves draining, we are already drained from the exausting semester and need time to rest. In other hand, most of us are offcampus students, to reach the clinical sites we have to dig into our pockets which we did not budget for. Thank you.

It is really unfair to us as the semester break should apply to all UB students also we have not been told this in time and do not have enough money to cover for the week's transport costs since we are not provided with transport allowance like medicine students we get to suffer on our own.

It is important that we go for short vac because as known ,we do a lot of physical work during clinical and again we have theory classes that needs us to be in a great position both physically and mentally so going for this break will help us rest and rewind because we are exhausted from all the work we have been doing since the semester started
