STOP PRESS: THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE TO DISBAND THE FORCE'S MOUNTED SECTION. See the blog for more information and please sign the petition.

Following the headline article in the Nottingham Post on Saturday 26th May, pupils of Fairfield Primary School were upset to learn that the Nottinghamshire Police were considering closing its mounted unit as part of a major cost cutting exercise. All of the children feel very strongly that this mounted section has a very valuable and important role to play in our local community and beyond. Many schools in Nottinghamshire have adopted a police horse through Nottinghamshire Police Authority and proudly display photographs and certificates to celebrate this. This issue was discussed in school assemblies and it was agreed that the Council would look into the matter and decide what action could be taken. The Council members unanimously agreed to draw up a petition to support the retention of the Mounted Section. They also agreed to take it to the Pupil Parliament of the George Spencer Family of Schools. This Parliament met today and all of the pupil members present agreed to support the petition in their schools. We, the undersigned, would like Nottinghamshire Police to keep and continue the use of its own mounted section. We feel that Nottinghamshire police horses have a major role within our community and elsewhere.
