The Cheshire Police Air Support Unit has updated incidents online for over 6 years. When the Britten Norman Islander (G-CHEZ) retired from service and was replaced by a state of the art Eurocopter, Cheshire Police moved their updates to Twitter. This was proven to be very popular with many Cheshire residents. No updates have been published recently because when you see the helicopter hovering, it does not necessarily mean that it is Cheshire's Helicopter (G-CPAO) Read on: On 11th July 2011 Police forces in the North West teamed together to deliver an improved air support service in our region with the introduction of the North West Air Operations Group (NWAOG). The NWAOG is operated by the five forces in the North West (Cheshire Constabulary, Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Constabulary, Merseyside Police, and North Wales Police) - This now means that we have an improved service in the region but the residents of Cheshire will no longer know why the helicopter is hovering above their house at 3am! Which for many residents can be very alarming and reading the updates can put their minds at rest knowing that an arrest has been made etc. The idea of this e-petition is to collect enough signatures for Cheshire Police to maybe realise that there are many people across the North West who would really love for the updates to return. Many facebook status's read: What is happening in Frodsham? Northwich? Winsford etc.. The Cheshire Police Helicopter Twitter page has many requests daily for updates. Not only residents used the service but many business's and media groups also relied on the updates. Please sign the e-petition today and maybe in the near future we will see the return of the online updates. We appreciate that the police helicopter above our houses in the night may not belong to Cheshire Police but surely someone within Cheshire Police is able to update us? Control room staff? PCSO?
