The NC DOT has proposed to in install a raised median on a 2.7 mile stretch of Hwy 70, between Cypress Plaza and Banks St, in Morehead City. The median would limit left turns to six or seven designated openings. The NC DOT turned it attentions to Hwy 70 after a report from the Rural Prosperity Task Force identified the section from I-40 to the state port at Morehead City  as one of three corridors statewide that should be improved to assist economic development. However, it is our position that limiting access to businesses along this area would do just the opposite. Business owners in Havelock area of Hwy 70 report notable sales loss since a similar project was started late last year. Please let the NC DOT know that this 1.9 million dollar project is unwanted and would definitely do more economic harm than good.
