This petition is now closed. Thanks to everyone for signing the ‘Friends of North Union Park’ petition! We had a fantastic response and submitted it to the Park and Recreation Commission with over 300 signatures.
We have set up a Google group for the 'Friends of North Union Park' to communicate updates about improvements to the park and surrounding area, social events and ways to get involved. Please join the group if you wish to receive further updates.

The playground at North Union Park is an indispensable part of our community and the lives of our children, and we ask the Park and Recreation Commission to recommend renovation for this playground as soon as possible.
This playground sees extensive use from a very diverse population. It’s where our kids play between runs through the spray park, where they hang out while their brothers and sisters play sports on the field, and where they get out their energy on their way to school, during recess, after school and on weekends. It’s where we host birthday parties, picnics, community meet-ups and playdates. And it’s where we watch our kids grow from toddlers through school ages as they play and master new challenges.
Although North Union Park is located in East Arlington, this playground is a destination and great resource for the entire town. Families from throughout Arlington, and beyond, come to this park for soccer and baseball on Lussiano Field, to play basketball on the court and to splash in the spray park, and, when they do, they often spend time at the playground as well.
Nonetheless, this playground is long overdue for renovation. The surfacing is full of potholes that are becoming increasingly dangerous for kids playing. The equipment is in many places broken, peeling and/or rusted. There is hardly any shade. And this situation is becoming worse as the playground continues to receive intense use.
As the Friends of North Union Park, and as individual Arlington residents, we greatly value this park and ask the Park and Recreation Commission to make renovation of our playground a priority.

We visit this park almost daily with our 2-year-old. Using the spray park this summer, we’ve noticed a number of mud holes just outside the paved area that draw wasps from a nearby nest. We hope the park commission will choose to invest in maintaining this heavily used community resource.
I have a child at Thompson school, and we use the park on the weekends as well. We run into families we know from all over Arlington. It is a real social center for families with kids. The spray park is great. I would love to see the playground updated and with some shade.
We use this playground regularly and see many other people there as well. As our child has gotten older, we have seen the playground deteriorate. The hole under the tire swing is getting bigger and bigger, the twisty slide broke and was removed, etc. This playground needs some love!
A slide broke on the big structure broke a few years ago and was disappointingly never replaced. I would also love to have more picnic tables (other than the old wooden one) near the playground. A shaded pavilion between the playground and splash pad would be a dream!
Potholes under the swings are not safe. The supposed little-kid climber is dented. Please update the park to match the same standards as the new water park.
This park is in dire need of repairs and renovation. It is used heavily year round.
I will do my best to attend the Park Commission meeting, but it does happen to be right at kid bedtime...

We recently moved from Arlington and had used this park when we were kids (many years ago!!). Our children attended Thompson School and we brought our grandchildren to the park as well. A new updated park would be a wonderful addition to the new school. Arlington will always be home!
