Increase fines and penalties for loud Boom Cars
Cars blasting music as
they cruise through Providence neighborhoods are one of the most
troublesome aspects of living in urban Rhode Island. Quality of life
suffers through interrupted sleep, inability to converse, listen to
music of our own choosing, or just relax in the quiet of our homes.
Driving with sound systems at high volumes is also against the law.
Right now, there is a fine for drivers caught blasting their music, but
there is no way to track repeat offenders or force collection of these
fines.
We are seeking to mitigate this problem. We
have been working with the Providence Police and the Providence City
Council to amend the
noise ordinance by changing how this law is enforced. This would entail a
better tracking system to catch repeat offenders, and increasing fines,
possibly leading to the loss of their licenses or use of vehicles,
which may be booted, towed, or impounded till fines and fees are paid.
Excessive noise from enhanced sound systems and radios at full volume has gone on for
years with no solution. If you agree that stronger measures are needed to resolve this problem, please sign this petition. Thanks for your support.
