To CAMBRIDGE CITY COUNCIL From RESIDENTS OF CAMBRIDGE CITY Keep Cambridge City and the rest of the county free. No road pricing here. No new road tolls. No tax on travel. No government bribes to coerce travellers onto inconvenient and expensive public transport. Congestion charging is very inconvenient for the user. The London scheme only makes a profit due to penalties. Other schemes could lead to unexpected large debts with no way to dispute them. How is the driver to know in advance even roughly how much a journey would cost Road pricing is not about reducing congestion, but pricing private cars off the road. It damages business, commuting and social activity. It hurts most those least able to pay. It requires a vast expensive system to monitor every journey. It is an intolerable interference with our freedom. If the council is determined to press ahead, then let the people of Cambridge decide in a fair referendum whether they want congestion charging. This petition will close on 15-10-07, and then be sent to Cambridge City Council. If you are NOT a resident within the City of Cambridge, please go to this petition - http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/NOCambridgeTOLLS_KeepRoadsFree/

I have been hearing from so many of you who are worried about how these tolls will change our daily lives and trap us in debt. People are telling me they feel ignored by the council even though our ability to travel is at stake. I am currently organizing the feedback to present as a formal protest against these intrusive plans.

Seeing this movement grow reminds me how many of us rely on our cars to live our daily lives without being penalized. I started this because I refuse to watch our city become inaccessible to the people who hold it together. Your support shows that we are not willing to let these tolls dictate how we move.

Any form of activity in Cambridge will now come with an extra cost added. Shoppers will go to other places. Entertainment will be more expensive and visiting Addenbrookes complex will com with extra stress.

I strongly object to the congestion charge I have lived in Cambridge for 75 years why should I be charged to gain access to my own property. If they want to reduce traffic congestion in the City why don’t they close all the city car parks and encourage more people to use public transport.

I work at Royal Papworth Hospital a congestion charge as well as paying to park on my salary will be very damaging to me financially.

Here’s the deal - if Councillors put reliable, frequent, safe, affordable and round the clock public transport in place and you can have my car keys on the same day. What you are not getting is me out of my car on the promise of “jam tomorrow” and yet more taxation given the complete failure to deliver anything up until now for the vast majority of Cambridge residents and businesses.

It's bad enough with everything else going on people struggling with food bills to put this on top. especially if you are going to addinbrookes with the cost of parking and another cost on topos that if you suffer from cancer and have to go on a daily basis lots of people working there it's not right

Without improving the public transport charging car owners for everything is not fair. It's discrimination. The cyclist needs to stop because they are slowing down the public transport and also the narrower road because of cycle lanes the public transport are slow. The cyclist can easily use the public transport. We need a proper pedestrian path and improved public transport. That's helpful from babies to elderly people to travel around. Not a nuisance cyclist . They just don't pay anything but nuisance to public. What's the point charging without improve the public transport. Active travel is not about cycling. It's about walking and use the public transport for everyone.
