The corner of Lancaster Avenue and Haverford Avenue is home to many small businesses, long time residents, and apartment buildings. CHOSEN300 ministries (3959 Lancaster Avenue) would like the right to house 40 homeless people in their basement.

• This will create a hardship for the community, residents and business owners, and will deter potential residents, commercial tenants and customers in an already fragile commercial corridor.

• By signing this petition you are letting the Philadelphia ZBA and Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier know that you are opposed to any group living facility / homeless shelter in our community.

This is a summary of the variance for the group living facility:

• The community was not informed of the variance request, the original RCO meeting January 2020 or ZBA hearing July 2020.

• 3959 Lancaster Ave is not up to current residential building code. Housing 40 people in this building is a liability that puts the residents and neighbors in danger.

• The group living facility will potentially host 40 different men and women every night, sharing beds and bathrooms, creating a high risk situation for spreading COVID.

• The group living facility will provide no stability for the people who would end up relying on the group living facility if they are not one of the first 40 people.

• The group living facility will accept the first 40 qualified people every night. Everyone after the first 40 people will be rejected and left on the street with potentially nowhere to go for the night.

• The group living facility will reject anyone that is visibly intoxicated, on drugs, is a convicted murderer or violent offender, and will leave them on the street with potentially nowhere to go for the night.
