We, the undersigned, request that the Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning Commission change the classification on the proposed 2025 Future Land Use Map regarding property owned by Newcomb Oil bounded by Old Lexington Road and Hwy 34 on the north side of Danville from Village Neighborhood to Garden Neighborhood.
Any commercial activity on this property would compete with downtown and other nearby businesses.Specifically, a Five Star service station built by Newcomb Oil on this property is opposed for the following reasons:
- The KY Transportation Department requires that the station access be on Old Lexington Rd which would have to be widened thus harming several established neighborhoods in nearby areas.
- There are two Five Star stations in Danville, both located within 12 miles along the bypasses around Danville from the proposed site.
- A service station causes more air, light, and groundwater pollution than residences
- Traffic congestion would increase since many roads come together in the vicinities of the proposed site: Lexington Ave., Old Lexington Rd., Goggin Lane, Kemper Lane, Waterworks Rd. Hwy 34, and Hwy 2168. Pedestrian traffic on any of these roads would be dangerous.
- Since many visitors enter Danville from the north side of town for Centre College activities, tourism, and city events and festivals, the attractive entrance into town would be compromised.
