Dear Premier O’Farrell,
We ask that the decision to allow recreational hunters into all but a few of the 799 national parks in NSW be revoked. We remind you that at the last election you promised to keep recreational hunting out of our National Parks.
The proposal would allow recreational shooters to close National Parks on the days they wanted to use them. It would therefore prohibit access to the general public. Recreational shooters are ineffective in controlling feral animals, impede effective NPWS programs that are already in place, and cause the spread of feral animals in National Parks. The current arrangements for supervision of the recreational hunters in the NSW national parks are impractical, ill-considered and pose a potential risk to both human and animal welfare.
Seeing this grow has been a heavy experience given the constant pushback we keep facing. I am exhausted by the fight but the scale of this support proves the public is not willing to let our parks be handed over. We have no choice but to keep moving forward despite how difficult this feels.

National parks are for families and hikers not people with guns. Completely dangerous idea.

Ridiculous. We go out there to escape the city and enjoy nature. Last thing I want to hear while walking is gunshots.
