Final supporters
Many of us, on the Southampton Girls Lacrosse team, are not in agreement with the merge that will be occuring next season. Although a couple years ago, we had a small amount of girls on our team, we have expanded our numbers to about 34 girls this year. Many of our games have become more competitive, and the improvement we have seen in our playing has been clearly noticeable. We have become a strong and close-knit family with eachother, and we do not want to lose many of the players we will if we merge next year. For many, the idea of playing until 6pm in East Hampton, and then having to take the 30 minute bus ride, is simply impossible. We are starting this petition in order to keep our family, and our identity as Southampton Mariners. We truly see the brightest of futures for our team, based on the talent we brought up this last year. Please sign our petition to help us keep our team.

I have spent the last few days hearing from players and parents who are terrified that this merger will force them off the field entirely. We are currently scouting out every available avenue to speak with the athletic board because this team is far more than just a roster to us.

Seeing this kind of backing reminds me why we fought so hard to build this team from the ground up. This momentum proves that our community values the identity we have created on this field.

The girls have worked way to hard to have their team taken away like this. My daughter loves being a Mariner and practice in East Hampton is just not doable with her school schedule. Leave it alone!
This merge would not end successfully. It would be better to leave the Southampton Girls Lacrosse team as it is. As of this year, there were 29 girls on the team. Merging with another school would mean that most of us would not get any playing time whatsoever. Our practices would also run later, due to the fact that we would have to travel to east Hampton everyday, making it hard for us to also focus on our academics. Merging with another school is an act that would hurt us more than help us.

For many of the girls on the team having to drive about 30 minutes is very inconvenient. Having to keep good grades is already hard enough when doing a sport and the merge would add stress to us. I was looking forward to joining lacrosse for my senior year but can't if it means having to go to another school and getting home to start my homework even later than usual.
