No Lottery for Full-Day K for 2015-2016

As of December 19th, 296 for students had registered kindergarten with 227 students requesting full-day kindergarten. There is not enough classroom space to offer full-day kindergarten to those students even if students are sent outside their home district. The school committee has approved purchasing modular classrooms for Joshua Eaton, Killam, and Barrows elementary schools. Five classrooms will be used to allow all students who registered for full day kindergarten to get it. One classroom will be for first grade at Joshua Eaton. Current kindergarten classes at Joshua Eaton are at high enrollment and this cohort of students will need an extra classroom to keep class sizes below twenty. This proposal must be approved by Town Meeting members to avoid a lottery. If a lottery is necessary, about 100 families that requested full-day kindergarten would not receive it.
