January 21st 7:30PM Senior Center: Financial Committee and Board of Selectman vote to bring proposal for Town Meeting
February 23rd Special Town Meeting: Vote to decide on modular classrooms
February 24th: Lottery if no vote
March 1st: Parents notified of the decision

Oops sent my other post too soon. My daughter won't be able to enroll in K until the fall of 2019 and although that's 4 years away this is an important issue for the future K students. We all live in Reading for a reason and one of them is the great school system but COME ON Reading! Get with the program. This map (for 2013-2014) shows how many communities are already offering full-time tuition free Kindergarten. Reading's tuition is in the most expensive tier and our children will be in modular classrooms? HELLO. I guess I'd prefer modular classrooms than out placing 100+ families.

the town really needs to band together to help these working families out. I only need half day next year but know many families that would have to quit their job if they could not have full day. This is not fair.

I just updated the numbers using the January 8th memo. It is important to note that these modular classrooms address space needs for the next 1-5 years. This issue is about more than full day kindergarten.

I am in support of this, but it is very much a short term, inexpensive solution to a much bigger problem. I urge anyone/everyone who is concerned about the future of our schools & our town to run for town meeting and be part of the legislative process.
I strongly support modular classrooms at Eaton, Barrows, and Killam as the only equitable and cost-effective solution for the space issues at these schools. Like our School Committee, I am opposed to any solutions that route kindergarten students to middle school, which is a logistical and educational disadvantage to both the K students and the middle schoolers.

As per the comment on the Reading Parents FB group, maybe can we also add language about the benefits of the modular classrooms for all families (e.g., alleviates other space issues, likely not just a 1-yr solution so will help avoid lottery and handle space issues next few years as well.)

Good idea. The modular classrooms being proposed are brand new and would have all utilities including Wi-Fi.
Would it be possible to change the wording to remove the work "trailers", and replace it with "modular classrooms", as this has a more positive connotation with most people. Thanks!
