People against closing a vehicular traffic lane for a bike lane on the Lagare Bridge crossing the Ashley River. Considering cost could be as high as $4 million and SCDOT could reclaim the lane for vehicular traffic in less than 3 years, it is simply illogical to spend taxpayers money in such a risky manner. We do advocate finding alternatives for bikers crossing the Ashley River such as a CARTA shuttle for the short term.
The bridge is already a nightmare during rush hour. Taking away a lane for a few bikes is gonna back up traffic all the way to West Ashley. Bad plan.

I'm sorry but it's just not a good idea. It's not safe and our roads are not big enough for the hundreds of thousands of cars daily much less a bike lane. The argument is that MORE people would ride their bikes to work and it would create a situation with LESS cars. WELL.... I DO NOT think SO! Attire alone is a problem not to mention, briefcases, lunch, kids etc... ITS just NOT a realistic idea. Fitness and health buffs need areas to ride safely I completely agree BUT NOT on the bridge!

Terrible idea. Traffic is so bad this will only make matters worse
