The 10th Street and Monroe Drive intersection has become very congested for many reasons including the BeltLine, the bike lane on 10th, and numerous projects in the works to make the intersection even more congested are on the way. The supporters of making the community more pedestrian/bike friendly also think the community should take into consideration the traffic backups this can cause. Below are ideas the midtown community would like taken into consideration in order take out the bike lane without losing the bike friendly initiatives in place.

1. Leave the bike lane as is but take out the parking on the south side of 10th street in order to have 4 lanes including a bike lane. This parking is mainly for Piedmont Park which should be parking in the garage that was built for this.

2. Take out the bike lane by developing the BeltLine from the Monroe Drive crosswalk close to Piedmont Road all the way to the Monroe/10th intersection so that bikes can travel from the park onto Beltline without using the bike lane.

3. Build a pedestrian/bike bridge crossing over the Monroe/10th intersection reducing the traffic in the area because the cars will move easier through the area reducing the need for the light to change so quickly.

Can't agree more. This lane has caused nothing but problems for those of us who live in the area! Why is a bike lane necessary when there is a park you can ride through?

There is a massive sidewalk and a park just off the road. Maybe replace the bumpy sidewalk!!!
