Our personal freedoms are being infringed upon again! The US Army Corps of Engineers has begun "testing" a program on a few corps lakes mandating the use of life jackets: While swimming outside designated "swim areas" (beaches). In boats 16' to 26' while under power. In boats 16' or shorter at all times. At all times skiing or being pulled by a vessel. Safety: Let us choose to wear a life jacket. Education and awareness are ways to reduce accidental drownings. Cost: Who will enforce this? If it is an US Army Corps rule they must enforce it. The Army Corps operates more than 2,500 recreation areas at 463 projects (mostly lakes). This is not a state, county or city law. Allow us to be responsible adults and let us choose please! The rule on my boat is "if you are in the water you wear a flotation device". If you are in the boat cruising around have a seat and enjoy the ride. Please pass this around. I am not sure if anyone listens to constituents anymore, but I have a feeling this is a rule that most will disagree with.
