To the City Officials of Bonita Springs, Florida:

We the undersigned oppose the proposed placement of a cell tower in our residential area, for the following reasons:

Negative health effects of continuous cell tower radiation:

In 2011 the WHO classified the type of radiation that cell towers emit as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. Exposure will be up to 24 hours a day for residents. Once this tower is built, the cell tower company can increase exposure levels with more antennas without informing anyone.

Safety concerns: Cell towers are not built to strict safety standards and pose a threat of collapsing and/or catching on fires. They present a very real danger of collapse, and the potential to cause harm such as property damage, and personal injury or death to anyone who might be unlucky enough to be near a nearly 150' cell tower when it fails, especially being in such close proximity to residents where children reside and are at play at any time. In addition, moderate to heavy winds and lightning strike can pose a danger to the cell tower's structure, the proposed tree parts could be blown off in a heavy storm which is very common in Florida. Who is going to guarantee our children's and family's safety against that?

Negative effect on aesthetics of homes and character of neighborhood:

An industrial 149ʼ cell tower is incompatible with the surrounding residential neighborhood with no high rise structures. It will be seen and the trees will never adequately screen the view of the tower.

Negative effect on property values:

The opinion of local realtors is that a cell tower at this site will lower the property values of surrounding homes.

No gap in coverage:

Verizonʼs, AT&T, and Sprint online coverage maps already all show great cellular coverage in the area surrounding the proposed cell tower with no gaps in our neighborhood. Also, there are already 3 existing cell towers within 1 mile of San Carlos Estates.

Lack of sufficient disclosure for a project with huge potential impact on the community:

Only residents within 500 ft were notified. Most residents nearby are unaware of the project or hearing.

Residents in San Carlos Estates and other surrounding communities should also be informed.

We do support responsible use of wireless technology and careful placement of cell towers that uses the best safety information available, protects property values, and meets environmental requirements. This proposal does not.

So we request that you deny the proposed American Tower Corporation project at 24000 and 24032 Golden Eagle Lane.
