On June 9, 2015, the Bainbridge Island City Council identified land next to and North of City Hall as the "preferred location" for a combined police/court facility and authorized its purchase for this purpose.

On November 3, 2015, Bainbridge Island voters overwhelmingly rejected a $15 million bond proposal that, according to the Voters' Guide, would have financed this facility.

In light of the City's continued interest in properties immediately North of City Hall, we, the undersigned, ask councilmembers to immediately develop a new plan for a police facility. As the 75% vote against Prop 1 indicates, we oppose the $15 million price tag AND a police station at this location.

We urge the City Council to move on by:

(1) rescinding its June vote authorizing the purchase of land North of City Hall.

(2) co-locating police and fire services, and/or

(3) taking timely steps to build a new, cost effective station at the police department's current site or at an alternative site near HWY 305.

To ensure an open and transparent process, we ask that the Public Safety Committee, established by Council in August, 2015, be convened and hold public meetings on this topic--and meaningfully engage with Bainbridge residents on this important issue.
