After much design review, our mural is ready to begin installation! Thank you to all the neighbors who filled out our survey. This petition is just to inform you of the upcoming design. Your signature helps us track community involvement in the process.
More about the design:
Muralist LaToya Peoples grew up in NE Philly, and wanted to start her design process by returning to the historical roots of the area. The Lenape beadwork pattern on the left represents the original inhabitants and stewards of the area. The three creeks that meet near the site – the Pennypack, the Tacony, and the Wissinoming – are home to the various native flowers shown throughout the mural. In the middle, we depict the construction boom of the 1950s – row-homes that we recognize in the neighborhood today, housing the families and businesses that many residents grew up with. Finally, the various faces depict the diversity of the region, looking together toward a shared goal of a thriving community.
Beautiful and very meaningful design. Please contact me if you need volunteer help. I would love to be included in ongoing community involvement in this Wonderful mural project. Thank You, Best Always, Elm
