The Illinois Department of Corrections has announced they will be rolling out a new line of uniforms for its correctional staff. Many issues have been voiced by the staff in regards to the new uniform, this including but not limited to the lack of a professional look, safety concerns, and the possible vunlerable appearance for female staff, and the cost.
So the department is going to spend 3.5 million taxpayer dollars to save less than 70$ per employee per set of uniforms for 9000 employees. So unless the department plans on the uniforms lasting a 100-Years or hiring 45,000 new employees. This move does not make sense for a state suffering with major budget woes.

These new uniforms are hideous...we dontbworm at a hotel....we are officers and should dress accordingly!!
No to the new uniforms, they will horrible for all of us on the frontlines
Changing the uniform to this poor excuse of a uniform is wrong on many levels. To start off with, we do not work at a Juvinille facility, we are the extension of the law enforcement that brought these guys here. Therefore should take pride in the uniform we wear now. We took an oath for the state to receive our badge. Not a polo. In addition, lanyard or clip option for a name badge.... whether they are break away or not, that just allows them to strangle me with a longer lanyard and a clip, thank you for telling me to clip an ID to my collar that rests on top of my breast. Which to point out is ALREADY highlighted by your new polo you are telling me I have to wear. No matter what bra someone wears, you will see it in those shirts. Fit or not fit, a tucked in polo shows off a woman's curves. I for one, working in a men's facility, already wear a bigger uniform shirt and pants to try to conceal that. Atleast with our current uniform, I can do that. A polo? Not so much, whether a bigger size or not. This is a prison, we are officers, we wear badges. Let's take pride in our uniform we have now and not fall victim of today's society.
These uniforms look ridiculous and totally unprofessional.
I as a idoc employee do not approve of this uniform or wish to wear it at work.

Professional, repect, security and safety. The uniforms do not represent the individual wearing it.
