Hi Friends,

My name is Georgia Drager. Today i'm asking for your help to get a new animals shelter for Cameron. Cameron Missouri is in need of a new animal shelter. The current shelter is way beyond its useful life. The current building is inadequate and dangerous for the people working there and the animals. Last year the State Inspector for Missouri inspected the building and nearly shut the building down. City employees worked quickly to make changes to the building to pass for the bare minimum requirements to get their State License to stay in operation until a new shelter can be decided on.

The last few months the City Council called on a few individuals from the community to form an animal shelter committee. This committee has been working extremely hard, volunteering hours and hours, making phone calls, having meetings to reviewing the plans that were developed by the architect for the new shelter. The committee exhausted all options for finding the most cost effective, realistic, best version of a shelter for our growing community.

Numbers aren't exact right now because everyday there are changes in the cost of the materials it would take to build the shelter. Based on the requirements by the State of Missouri, the size, and the city requirements, the building is estimating to cost between six hundred thousand dollars and seven hundred eighty-eight thousand dollars. The decision for A new shelter is now in the hands of the City Council. They will review the plans, take into consideration the poor condition of the current shelter, decide on a price, choose what is best for the community and vote on whether Cameron will get a new animal shelter.

The City Council is looking for support and transparency with the community of Cameron before making their final decision on building a new shelter. Today I ask your support for this shelter, for the people and animals of Cameron. I ask you to take this opportunity to express your interest and your desire for a new shelter that Cameron can be proud of. A place where people, high school students, community organizations can go to volunteer, work, foster and adopt an animal. A safe place where the homeless strays, the surrendered souls can have a chance at a new beginning. A safe, clean shelter where a family pet would wait to be reunited with its family if it became lost and animal control picked it up!

With a new shelter would come new opportunities for the people of our community while serving the City of Cameron. There would be volunteer opportunities and employment opportunities. The building would give students a chance to read to the animals, care for the animals, socialize the cats, walk the dogs, put on fundraisers for spay/neuter programs, foster programs, and a medical fund for injured animals that may enter the shelter. The new building would be located near the new Cameron Dog Park! This would be perfect for volunteers to take dogs down to the park to exercise! The vision and opportunities to better the community through a new animal shelter are endless. Please help me, help the community and speak for those who have no voice.

Sign this petition today and let your voice be heard, show your support today for the future of Cameron.

Please sign, share where you are from, and SHARE! If we could get around 6,000 signatures that would speak volumes to City Council!

Thank you all for your support!

Seeing this kind of movement toward a new shelter for our animals brings me so much relief. The condition of the old building has weighed on my heart for too long and your energy creates a real path forward for these creatures.

Seeing the count climb toward 250 signatures gives me so much hope that we can finally replace that dangerous building for the animals. We are in the final stage of this push and I need you to reach out to your neighbors today to help us cross this mark before the next council meeting.

The Cameron community definitely needs a new animal shelter. The current one is nothing more than an inhuman slum.

Cameron is my hometown and having adequate shelter for the animals is very important to me. A well rounded town takes care of its animals also.

Cameron is in dire need of a new animal shelter . The first time I stepped into the shelter after moving here to Cameron . I was disgusted and sickened by what I saw . Even after the cut corners when "improving " I still would not even suggest animal be there ! We need a better , nicer , animal shelter . One that fits a cat or dogs needs !

I worked at the shelter and I know what kind of condition it's in. I sure do hope you get something done very soon. That building is not suitable for cats or small dogs at all, not to mention it's not big enough for a town the size of Cameron. Good luck!!

Come on people of Cameron, this is a no brainer. Every animal deserves to be cared for. Sign the petition and then donate. Just $1 dollar can make a difference.

Cameron dog pound has used the building they are currently in for over at least 17 yrs. They where there before the year 2000. The employees have been working very hard for a long long time. I feel that they deserve a new building for their work place. I feel it would be better with more kennels, more room for the dogs to run and play. And bigger office, adoption office and waiting room. For people that want to adopt the dogs. And for the people to pay bills, fines etc. Again this would help everyone out and make it easier for employees and coustomers.
