The Bredesen Center (Energy Science and Engineering) is a unique 3-5 year PhD program. Once students have completed their coursework (usually between the first and second year), many do their research and thesis work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The problem is that after we finish classes we continue to pay all student fees every fall, spring, and summer even though we are no longer on campus and no longer have an office on campus. We request university administrators to help us negotiate the student fees that we pay, either by waiver, opt in or opt out process, or reduction, benefiting the students. Additionally we request the university administrators to provide the information related to student fees and other fees that we pay.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that so many of us are struggling under the weight of these unnecessary costs. It is draining to keep pushing against this bureaucracy but your commitment keeps me going.

Been paying these fees for years while working at the lab. Just transparency is all we want. Where is the money even going?
it makes no sense to pay for campus facilities we literally never use. we are at the lab all day every day. cut us a break.

Ridiculous that we are still getting charged full price. I have been at ORNL for two years and haven't stepped foot in a student union. Needs to change.
