Graduate students are currently being charged Athletics Fees and Student Activities Fees each semester; however, graduate students are not able to receive the benefits promised by paying these fees. Graduate students commute to classes from many parts of the state (in some instances, other states) and are not on campus for athletic events and other student activities. Moreover, night and Saturday classes conflict with many of these events and activities. We believe that fees charged for our education should go toward benefits specifically targeted to our degree programs.
Therefore, we request the following changes to the fee policy for
graduate students:
1. Graduate
Students’ have the option to waive the Athletics fee. This would
allow students who live nearby and wish to participate to continue receiving
the benefit, but would not charge students who are unable to attend events
2.
Graduate students should receive the same benefit of a Shaw University blazer through
the payment their Student Activities Fee.
3. A portion of the Student Activities Fees should be allocated for programming targeted for Graduate student activities.
