To the Dean of International Studies,

We would like to appeal for a partial refund for the expenses incurred by the International Orientation (NISO). We feel that the two hundred dollar fee charged to OU International students arriving in spring semester 2016 is an overly inflated charge for the services offered. We feel that the Mandatory Internet Orientation taken by all the new students sufficiently covered the topics discussed during the International Orientation Presentation.

Whilst there were some additional experiences such as the Native American welcome and the cheerleading performance we do not feel that this warrants the excessive fee. During the performance we were informed that these volunteers had kindly offered to perform for us. This does not correlate with the extortionate fee we are now expected to pay.

It was implied that aspects such as the shuttle and breakfast were complimentary, however, it appears that this is actually what we are being charged two hundred dollars for. We have calculated what we deem the cost for these services. For example, the airport express to Norman which would cost thirty five dollars per person plus two dollars for additional passengers with the Oklahoma Lightning Express Shuttle Service (accurate on: 15th February 2016). In this case, all NISO charges could be considered as deceptive pricing.

We also wish to point out that last semester the new international students were allowed to waive this fee.

We ask that you show understanding and provide us with a solution, as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

The International Students of OU

I really thought this might just fizzle out but seeing so many people agreeing that two hundred bucks is just way too much for a few snacks and a shuttle ride is actually kind of validating. It makes me feel a bit less like I am shouting into the void about this whole pricing mess even if the breakfast was decent enough I guess.

200 dollars is way too much for a few hours of sitting in the ballroom. We were told the food was free but that was clearly a lie. This is unfair to international students.

I agree that the price is too much for the services that are offered. Understandably, the University needs to make budget cuts in times of economic downturn but the onus of this should not fall on International Exchange Students who struggle enough to pay for all of the other unexpected costs and are not allowed by the University to work in order to balance these costs. There are plenty of other areas that could be tightened up before charging students extra - such as "squirrel maintenance".

Ridiculous price! They sat us in a chair for five hours (without food) and then gave us "free" pizza. Everything they told us could have been found online.
