In June 2007, the Provincial Government of New Brunswick,Canada will take possession of the present Saint John YM-YWCA with plans to demolish it and build a new Justice Complex in its place .The YM-YWCA will then move to a temporary location until a new Y can be constructed.
At present, the YM-YWCA Board of Directors and Staff decided that they will not replace the two Racquetball/Handball/Squash courts when the new Y is constructed. This will leave Greater Saint John with no courts at all, leaving anyone who wishes to play these sports no choice but to travel over an hour to another city. This will make it impossible for these sports to grow locally, guaranteeing the end of these sports in Greater Saint John. All happening at a time when the value of recreation and sport is being renewed by it citizens.
By signing this petition, you would support a reversal to the decision above .Thank you in advance for your support.
Reaching this point in our campaign has been a long and draining road. Seeing this level of backing reminds me why I started this fight in the first place even when the board seems intent on ignoring us. We are staying in this fight.

Disappointed. Health and fitness should be a priority not something we cast aside for a building project.

This is ridiculous. Used these courts my whole life and now they just want to scrap them? Keep the sport alive in Saint John.

Why do they keep cutting everything? Just keep the courts in the new building. Easy fix.

My son plays here every weekend. Where else is he supposed to go? Terrible idea.

We need these facilities. It is the only place in the city to play. Dont let them take it away.
