Join the University of Iowa art students as they raise awareness for the current controversy of the mandatory selling of the Jackson Pollock painting "Mural."
For those unaware of current happenings, an Iowa House subcommittee voted on Wednesday 2/16 in favor of legislation that would force the University of Iowa to sell the state’s most famous work of art.
If the Pollock was sold the University of Iowa Museum of Art would lose its accreditation through the American Association of Museums.
By signing this petition you will be helping us let the Iowa Legislators know that we think they are making a terrible mistake. A mistake that would not only be detrimental to the School of Art and Art History, the entire University of Iowa, but also to the surrounding communities and the state of Iowa.
"Mural" by Jackson Pollock is worth more than its monetary value, to the University and surrounding communities, it's priceless.

The subcommittee vote is a direct attack on our museum accreditation and we must push back immediately. Go to the Facebook event page and post the petition link to your own wall right now. Call your state representative to tell them that Mural is not for sale.

The momentum we have built proves that the state cannot quietly dismantle our cultural history. Now is the time to turn this energy into action by emailing your state representative to demand they vote no on the proposed legislation.

Leave the painting alone. The museum gives us so much and losing accreditation would be a total disgrace to the whole state.

So sad to see our leaders value a dollar over culture. Once it is gone we can never get it back.
