We have one clear message: Defunding the arts in public schools is not the way to save money. The Florida Legislature, session after session, threatens budget cuts to the Arts programs from higher education on down to the elementary school level.
The Republik is embarking on their state-wide "Publik Education" tour to raise awareness and collect signatures for this petition. This petition represents the voices of the majority of Floridians that won't stand for the ultimate drain of the future of culture in our state.
We are asking Governor Rick Scott to stop bills that reallocate money from public schools' arts programs. We are asking for NO MORE CUTS.

Touring across the state has shown me that kids are already losing instruments and rehearsal spaces because of these budget choices. We are currently compiling the stories we hear at every stop to present directly to the governor's office.

Seeing this level of support reminds me of the music teachers who pushed me to find my own sound in a tiny practice room back home. It is incredible that so many of you value these programs as much as we do.

My son loves his drama class. Please dont take that away from him. It is so wrong to starve the schools of creativity.
Music class was the only reason I made it through high school. My painting teacher saved my life basically. Keep the funding alone!

Seriously? Cutting arts is such a short sighted move. My kids need those programs to express themselves. Rick Scott needs to wake up.
