Move the Wokingham without polling station for 6th May 2021, and keep Oaklands school open
Are you aware that on the 6th May 2021 Oaklands school will be again used as a polling station for the local elections. This means that 2 schools and a nursery will be closed, denying pupils yet another day of education.
Following the pandemic and vastly reduced amount of schooling for children, I find this unacceptable and believe that an alternative site should be used.
I refuse to believe that another location could not be utilised for this purpose, therefore allowing our children to attend a valuable day of education.

It is unnecessary to disrupt the education of over 200 pupils, when there are many alternative locations in central crowthorne such as the morgan centre, the church halls x2, the library can shut for one day to provide this service too....
The frequency of the disruption to so many childrens' education is unacceptable in my view. A suitable alternative venue (or venues) must be found. There are a number of small halls and churches in the area that would cause far less disruption to so many children and parents if these were used instead.
As the local Borough councillor for Wokingham Without I will present this petition this evening at Wokingham Borough’s full Council meeting. As a former teacher I agree with its sentiments wholeheartedly. Pauline Helliar-Symons.
Why does it always have to be Oaklands that's used. The excuse I was given by the MP was because of the parking - there is no parking!!!! Consider using Pinewood, Edgbarrow Sports Centre, Hatch Ride, St Sebastians Hall, St Sebastians School, etc. or at least share it around.
Our childrens education suffer every time the school is closed for voting. Working parents are forced to make alternative arrangements for childcare. Education settings should not be forced to close for public use.
To use Oaklands as a polling station this year is so wrong on so many levels. I have requested a postal vote so that I do not have to visit the site. Wake up Wokingham Borough Council

What happened to the £31m pledged by the gov in Feb to avoid using schools as polling stations? Makes me wonder if the leadership of Wokingham council has a vested interest in keeping the polling station right where it is knowing the likely preference of majority voters in immediate vicinity.
