Wokingham Borough Council has gone back on its pledge to 'guarantee' that a secondary school will open in September 2016 in the Arborfield area.

By'guaranteeing' a school would open at the same time and in the same place as the SOW Free School it made it impossible to continue with our plans to get a school in place as early as 2015.

It now seems parents living in Arborfield, Barkham and Finchampstead will not get a school at all! Instead parents will have no choice but to make their children endure a 90 mile a week journey just to get to and from school. This tiring and lengthy journey is totally unacceptable and will have a severe impact on their educational experience.

The purpose of this petition is to make Wokingham Borough Council honour their pledge to deliver a secondary school by September 2016, as set out in local councillors manifesto's and stated in public pledges.

I just saw the count ticking up toward that 250 mark and it honestly feels like we might actually get someone from the council to listen if we keep this momentum going. Please just find two people who live in the area and make sure they sign this right now since the commute for our kids is already long enough without us waiting around for them to change their minds.

I was just looking at the map again and honestly the thought of those kids sitting in a car for ninety miles every single week makes my stomach turn. I have been spending my nights chasing up emails with the council office and they keep giving me the runaround but I am not planning on stopping until somebody actually answers a straight question about these missing school places.

I noticed we are almost at a hundred names which really puts a fire under me because the council needs to see that we are not just going to sit back while our kids spend their entire lives on a bus. If everyone who signed already just grabs one neighbor or maybe someone who actually rides the bus route to talk about this today we could totally blast past this milestone before the week finishes.

90 miles a week is just ridiculous for a child. how are they supposed to focus in class after that much time on a bus???
