SUBJECT: CHANGING OF MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION TO PARENTS DAY CELEBRATION

Dear Principle Alaywan,

I am writing to you on behalf of a collective of parents regarding the recent initiative to replace Mother's Day with Parents Day at ICE Dubai. As concerned parents who respect the diverse backgrounds and values of our community, we wish to formally advise against this proposed change.

While we understand the intention behind promoting inclusivity and diversity, we believe that altering Mother's Day to Parents Day may inadvertently disregard the unique cultural values and traditions held by families in our community. Celebrating Mother's Day is not only a cherished tradition but also a reflection of the deep appreciation and respect for the diverse roles and contributions of parents within our society.

Moreover, we are deeply concerned about the potential psychological impact this change may have on our children, particularly in terms of their understanding of family dynamics and parental roles. Children at a young age are still forming their perceptions of family structures and relationships. Introducing a generic term such as Parents Day without acknowledging the diverse cultural backgrounds and family dynamics may lead to confusion and a lack of cultural sensitivity among students.

Furthermore, the current global discourse surrounding gender identities highlights the importance of approaching such matters with sensitivity and respect for diverse perspectives. It is essential to recognize that discussions surrounding gender identity are complex and multifaceted, and any changes introduced in an educational setting should be done with careful consideration and consultation with the parent community.

In light of these concerns, we respectfully request that the administration reconsider the decision to replace Mother's Day with Parents Day. We believe that promoting inclusivity and diversity can be achieved through alternative means that honor the unique cultural values and traditions of all families within our community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We trust that you will give due consideration to our concerns and engage in constructive dialogue with the parent community to find a mutually agreeable solution.

Sincerely,

ICE Dubai Parents Community
