Petition to Reconsider the 2025–2026 MYP End-of-Year Assessments at DIA Emirates Hills
We, the students of the MYP programme at DIA Emirates Hills, respectfully request that the school administration reconsider the upcoming 2025–2026 End-of-Year (EOY) assessments due to the exceptional circumstances that have affected students throughout this academic year.
Over the past months, ongoing tensions and conflicts in the Middle East, including the recent escalation involving Iran and the United States, have created significant stress, anxiety, and uncertainty for students living in Dubai and across the UAE. These events have had a direct impact on students’ mental wellbeing, focus, and overall ability to learn effectively in school.
Many students feel that the academic pressure placed upon us during this period has made it difficult to properly revise, understand, and fully keep up with the large amount of content covered across all subjects. As a result, a large number of students do not feel adequately prepared for major summative assessments that are designed to evaluate a full year’s worth of learning.
We believe that End-of-Year assessments should fairly reflect students’ understanding and abilities. However, under the current circumstances, these exams may not accurately represent students’ academic potential due to the emotional and psychological strain many have experienced this year.
We are therefore respectfully asking the administration to consider:
- Cancelling the MYP EOY assessments,
- Reducing the weighting of the exams,
- Adjusting the exam content,
- Providing alternative assessments, or
- Postponing the assessments to allow students more time to prepare properly.
This petition is not about avoiding academic responsibility. Rather, it is about ensuring fairness, supporting student wellbeing, and recognizing the genuine challenges students have faced during this academic year.
We sincerely hope the administration of DIA Emirates Hills will take the concerns of its students into consideration and make a decision that prioritizes both academic fairness and student wellbeing.
