As residents of Councilmatic District “E” Lake Barrington
subdivision, we are concerned about the condition of the Morrison Canal,
particularly in the area adjoining our subdivision-Morrison Road extending
from Wright Road to Bullard Avenue.
There is a foul order periodically emanating from the canal
with visible debris and algae throughout the water channel. In light of West Nile virus infected
mosquitoes having been found in eastern New Orleans this summer, coupled with stagnant high water levels and debris, we believe that the canal's current condition creates
health and safety issues for the community, particularly to the residents in the
area. Additionally, with debris potentially impeding water flow, the areas along the canal are more susceptible
to experience street flooding should any substantial
rainfall occur.
Therefore, we the residents of the Lake Barrington community are requesting that the Morrison Canal channel be pumped,
cleaned and dredged as soon as possible.
The canal is unsightly and a health hazard. The mowers need training and supervision. Hopefully, cleaning of the canal will be a priority.
