With July 1 falling on Tuesday this year, NDP MPP Peter Kormos wants next Monday to be a statutory holiday so Ontarians can enjoy a true long weekend.
\"Ontarians deserve some time off,\" the Niagara Centre MPP said as he lolled in a lawn chair at Queen\'s Park. \"My bill would let people spend time with their families, spend money in our tourist areas and even think about who to vote for in the coming provincial election!\"
The Niagara Centre MPP today introduced a bill that would make June 30, 2003 an official holiday. In the longer term, the NDP\'s balanced budget platform calls for the creation of two additional long weekends.
We therefore request that June 30th, 2003 be made an official holiday.
The momentum behind this push proves that Ontarians are done with the status quo and deserve a real break. Queen's Park needs to stop ignoring our demand for this holiday and finally listen to the people who actually run this province.

Finally someone gets it. Everyone is worn out and we need a break. Hope this actually happens.

Good idea. It would definitely help local tourism if people actually had the time to travel.

Make it happen. Workers need a break and the economy could use the boost.
