A few months ago our entire block was hit with thieves going around breaking into cars. Our next door neighbor's car window was also smashed. Last week, these criminals managed to get into my car at 3am. Our camera spotted 3 young guys (possibly in their 20's) breaking into my car and searched around for 2 minutes before moving onto the next house. Our street is extremely dark with only a few lamp posts. We have noticed random cars parking in these "dark spots" for sometimes hours on end. We've sent an email to the city of Elk Grove explaining the situation with only getting brushed off with a "we will look into it" response. I am considering taking this request to a higher level and would like your help. If you live on Pianella Way or the adjacent streets, please sign this petition to increase the amount of street lights for the safety of our neighborhood.
I have been reading your stories about the nights you spent anxious after hearing noises outside your windows. The city has ignored my inquiries so far but they cannot ignore all of us.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only person here who feels unsafe at night. It is heartening to know that so many neighbors are just as tired of these dark streets as I am.

My truck got hit last month and they took everything. Total nightmare. We really need better lighting so these guys have nowhere to hide

I place the blame on the LED street lamps that have a noticeably reduced radius of light shining down from them - I have even had trouble seeing pedestrians crossing the street at night - the city is setting itself up for lawsuits!

I support adding more street lights and increasing the wattage of existing lights.
