Let's start a movement across the community to get our kiddos more RECESS time during the day, so they can do better across the board from academics to behavior! Kids are meant to play (FREE play), not sit still for 8 hours a day! There are TONS of studies and evidence to prove this!!!

Two hundred and fifty people have now told the TISD board that eight hours of sitting is unacceptable for our children. The administrators keep ignoring the evidence on free play but they cannot ignore us anymore.

One hundred people have spoken up and TISD still refuses to listen to our kids. This board thinks they can ignore our demands for more recess time but we are just getting started.

The administration can keep ignoring us but they cannot ignore the surge of parents demanding better for these kids. This momentum proves that the school board is failing our children by keeping them chained to desks all day.

As a former teacher, I would agree that children need to have an outlet from the academics that they participate in all day. I also agree that it should be FREE play, choices that they make rather than being directed to specific activities.
I pulled my child to home school because children need to play not write for 8 hours. So many times was his one recess taken away to finish a writing assignment! Children need to build their core muscles to use their fine motor skills. Monkey bars, ball, ropes, jumping... this makes smarter more well adjusted kids.
It is about time! One of the biggest reasons I am considering alternatives to public school is the lack of recess! I don't understand why "playing" is underestimated! It is in fact the very base of which all learning is built upon and the natural way of learning! Please for their education and for the health of our kids, enforce more recess!
As a second grade teacher I feel that more breaks for recess for the kids would make a world of difference in behavior in the classroom.
The excessive testing and giving children less recess time have done nothing except make our kids not like school. It hadn't improved grades or knowledge. In addition, children need more recess in order to shake off excess energy and to allow their minds to open up for learning.
Recess is brain food.

Recess is soooooo important. How can the government have commercials on daily physical activity initiatives, yet also, at the same time, not only allow children to miss recess, but also shorten the amount of playground time every year???
