A new opportunity for changing the Miami Shores fence limit regulations has presented itself. The decision to change our future lies in the hands of the newly elected council, who will be meeting on May 5th. Miami Shores is not the community it was when the ordinances for fences were approved. In 1989. Today, we have different challenges and public safety issues a raised height limit on fences and enclosures would address.

The presence of sex offenders residing in our neighborhood, as verified by public records, necessitates the need for fences to be at a height that would deter entry into our yards where children are playing and where women are often alone enjoying the outdoors. Public records also show an increase in home invasions, thefts and other delinquent and sometimes violent crimes in Miami Shores.

Even law enforcement training programs recognize the need for adequate height requirements to deter persons non-grata and meet public safety needs by requiring their graduates to be able to scale a 6ft. fence.

If you agree that raising the fence height limit to 6’ ft would make it more difficult for these sex offenders as well as home intruders, thieves, and other persons non grata from gaining access to our homes., please sign our online petition to bring the matter before the next Council hearing on May 5th:
