The city finally caved and the crosswalk is officially happening. They tried to ignore us for long enough but our pressure forced their hand. Keep your eyes open to make sure they actually break ground on time.

Final supporters
James Bay Residents! We all cross the street at Menzies and Michigan. Whether it's to go to the bank, or to take our kids to school. We cross there to get to the park, to get a coffee, to head to work, to go home, to use the shops, or to just cross. A marked crosswalk is needed on the south side of Menzies Street crossing Michigan Street. If you would like to see one put in, please sign this petition to add your voice to the city. Thank you. You don't need to be a James Bay or even Victoria resident to sign this. If you're a fan of safety, then sign away!

The city officials continue to ignore our calls for a basic crosswalk while pedestrians dodge traffic on Menzies every single day. I am tired of waiting for them to prioritize our safety over their bureaucratic delays. We will keep pushing until they finally install the paint and signs we need.

many years of crossing at this location bringing kids to school make me agree with this idea...
Yes, a crosswalk for this section is much needed, i find i stop for people all the time. As for the speeders, maybe we can request a 30 km zone through this area as well as the section on Niagra between Oswego and Montreal (a school and well used, busy park) Taxis speed through there regularly as well as locals...
This would be very great. Allowing me too safely cross the street to the businesses after the bus stop.
As a mother with a young child (who likes to go to Irving Park where this crosswalk is much needed!!), a crosswalk here would be not only safer, but would also solve the issue of so many drivers who feel like the need to speed along this road.
The addition of this crosswalk would be a simple, affordable and intelligent step towards public safety and a motivator for community members to interact with each other by having easy access to this busy block of the James Bay neighbourhood. Let's do it!

Yes! It is needed. Drivers don't stop to let pedestrians cross. There are a lot of young families, and seniors crossing at that corner. Even for myself! I just about got run over twice. Drivers believe they have the constant right of way.
